Dr. Fred Sai is known by many as the “grandfather of maternal health.” He has received many awards for his efforts, including the 1993 United Nations Population Award and the 1995 Prince Mahidol Award for his leadership in advancing international family planning. Dr. Sai served as the chairman of the National Population Council of Ghana from 1992 to 1997. He was president of the International Planned Parenthood Federation and also a senior population advisor at the World Bank from 1985 to 1990. He has authored numerous books focusing on reproductive health.
