In 1997, philanthropist Ted Turner announced his historic pledge of $1 billion to create the United Nations Foundation in support of United Nations causes. He is chairman of the UN Foundation and Turner Foundation, each of which work to advance reproductive health and women's equality internationally. Turner is the recipient of numerous honorary degrees, industry awards and civic honors.
